Description
HEREDIA is the City of Flowers, and you can feel it in the air.
The cityscape is colorful, with buildings surrounded by tropical foliage and mango trees. People come to sit under the mango trees and listen to outdoor concerts that take place in the central plaza. Heredia is small (only 6 miles north of San Jose) but features numerous historical buildings and 18th-century colonial architecture.
Heredia also has plenty of adventure tours beyond the city limits. You can go on coffee plantation tours or walking garden tours amid beautiful waterfalls, or even tour artisanal towns outlying from Heredia’s center.
Its central location provides access to several volcanoes along the central corridor, including Poas Volcano—the active volcano that’s just a few miles away from Heredia! Protected national and private parks offer hiking, birdwatching, ziplining and hot springs tours among others
